I could relate highly with some of the struggles London went through, including family tragedies and the suicide of a family member. Beautiful Sorrow is aptly named, and is an absolutely beautiful memoir detailing not only London's struggles, but her triumphs as well. I especially appreciate a quote that she highlights at the beginning of her memoir. The quote reads as follows:"I am defined by me, and onl. AdrianneAnn said Entertained and Inspired. As a single (romantically-minded) woman who spent quite a few years dealing with the sea of crazy, confusing, and often colorful male prospects in NYC, I loved hearing the author's honest yet humorous take on the situation. She felt like a comrade in battle! Then reading about her tragic past, and learning how she overcame those struggles through positive thinking and a powerful sense of perseverance and purpose is absolutely incredible. This is one modern-day heroine. Her viewpoints and musings are often so pure and unadulterated that they seem almost childlike in nature.. Highly recommended read--this should be a movie! This book provides a rare journey along side a fascinating woman who is determined to discover her origins in order to uncover a deeper understanding of the motivations behind the overwhelming tribulations she has faced throughout her life. Her stories will make you laugh and cry, but ultimately you will admire her perseverance and feel inspired after reading them. Most authors wouldn't dare to be so honest and raw which is why I highly recommended this read!
Her memoir touches on a multitude of topics from overcoming childhood obesity, immense family tragedy and her brother's suicide to pursuing a career in music and her active involvement in animal welfare. Beautiful Sorrow is the almost unbelievable true life story of Jenn London. Her optimism, determination and drive only begin to scratch the surface of this dramatic, yet humorously written, inspiring journey towards finding peace and happiness.
