Wonderful plot, spunky heroine, flat hero!!!!!! M. Chandler I would give this book 3-1/2 stars, because I really, really wanted to like it. I'm always sad when I find a book I could like, but just can't because some element is lacking, and this book did start out good. I liked Serena, she was spunky, funny, loveable, and you could feel her sadness come right off the page. Ms. Cach did an excellent job developing her character. The scenes when she's trying to scare everyone out of the castle are hilarious, . Enthralling Story 1350 After most of her family die of the plague, Serena and her brother decide that in order to survive, they will kidnap Hugh Le Gayne and hold him prisoner until he agrees to marry Serena and finance Thomas in his joining the military. Alex Woding came to Maiden Castle seeking quiet, and the freedom to study the stars. For five hundred years Serena Clerenbold had been a ghost — since the days of the Black Death — and she had never known peace. Originally published as “Of Midnight Born,” by Dorchester Publishing.. Alex made Serena burn to be flesh once more, to revel in a touch she’d once reviled. There, in his youth, Alex had glimpsed an ethereal beauty that had haunted him ever since. Now, under the midnight sky, a tingle on the back of his neck tells him he is not alone. And though he was thrilled to discover a place where he could pursue his passion undisturbed by nosy sisters and society matchmakers, he had another motive for retreating to the fortress on a hill. But watching the castle’s handsome new tenant, happiness was easy to imagine… for the living. Which made her all the more determined to drive him away. He made her dream that she could be saved, for there was no power greater than that of love, even for… a Phantom Bride
